Auch! Now I should get the money to buy a new PC that I could install CWB on :o(
Surely it won't stay free forever, even this present stripped down version?
Paradoxal...do I need to continue with 8.5 anyway? :o)

I sure hope this all means a good future for the SONAR legacy. I, for one, don't understand the mindflow of the upset ones at all. I paid full price for SONAR 6 when ordering it at a retailers. The shop went belly up, and I had to buy S6 again. Manure and other things happen.

I forget how long I've been involved with Cakewalk...since before the Pro 9 days.I expected to eventually be paying for any versions/developments if Sonar was sold. I am delightfully surprised at the news.

The ongoing business model is anyone's guess. The fact that the extra sound content  is  free to new users is a boon for some.I don't need any of it but if I did it would nice considering the price. Rapture, Zt3a+2 and those synths should be paid options. It's sad really that I had never heard of Bandlab before this and they have something like 3 million members. I can see that number growing as the result of recent announcements. Even though Windows didn't buy the software I can easily see it becoming like the PC version of Logic. Only Mac charges you 200.00 for Logic and Cakewalk by BandLab is free. In a group with the likes of Audacity. This will likely become the new Audacity for new user, young users, those who can't afford Cubase.

If all the whiny crybabies claiming to have bought every Cakewalk product ever released dating back to V1.0 for DOS had really done so, then Cakewalk inc. would still be in business and we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

There's an old story about an employer who hired some guys out early in the morning. Then he hired some more at noon. Then he hired some more an hour before closing time. At the end of the day, everybody got the same pay. Some of those who had worked all day complained that it wasn't fair. The employer said, "Friend, you got paid what you were promised. Take your money and go. I want to pay these others the same, even though they only worked one hour. Is not my money mine to do with as I please?"
