I'm  creating, editing and playing SMFs in Sonar using the Roland TTS-1 instrument but effects settings don't get saved, when I reload the project the effect settings are gone! What to do?

Hi. My guess is that you are saving as a Template, not as a Cwp (Project).
All the best.

Well that seems odd but to tell the truth it's been a long time since I messed about with details in TTS-1. In the past they certainly did stay put. I even used to change the effect parameters. But I think things are going weird with good old TTS-1  as Sonar moves into it's newer versions. It a shame because I still depend on it to play SMF's after I download them. I then replace all the parts with better VST's etc.
One thing I have found and this won't matter if your making your own from scratch, but effects are hard to edit and tend to reset to the original settings. Sonars Event list is sadly lacking in midi details so it's hard to find the data in midi files to change this. I often open the files in Anvil Studio where they do show on the event list.

If you are making your own midi from scratch then TTS_1 should save all it's settings down to fine details in the effect parameters. Maybe someone can test this, I won't have time for a few days.

What version of Sonar are you using?

No, I didn't save as a template. I save as a standard cakewalk project. I think this is a long standing bug that Roland and Cakewalk never worked out. Using the TTS-1 is probably not important to most Sonar users because there are so much better instruments these days, it gets bypassed! I like to use it because it conforms to the GM standard which is good for live applications. My Roland RS-70 streams GM files from it's disk drive, this is why I'm so concerned about the TTS-1 instrument. One thing I must try is to save the project as a General Midi file 0 format anyway.

Can you save your settings as a preset in TTS-1?  Then just load the preset each time.

Not sure if the TTS-1 saves it's effects as presets and it not as integrated with Sonar as it should be because on Sonar's inspector strip there's chorus and reverb controls that don't control the TTS-1's chorus and reverb much if at all! I'm very disappointed with this, I thought Sonar would be more professional and by the way I have Sonar Professional 2016.04. I'm almost sure this won't be fixed in the latest version. Most users probably would think this is a minor because thedon't use the TTS-1!

Hi, ronboy1952!

That's a pity it's not possible to save TTS-1 settings. I made a few tests and couldn't open a saved project with TTS-1 settings restored.

But you could set the same parameters on Event List or PRV, via midi continuos controller.

I hope this helps!

CC control? Probably the only solution but it is a bit too much work which takes the fun out of using the TTS-1! I have a solution that won't be from using the TTS-1!! I can use the VST instrument Native Instruments' "Bandstand" but I've been having a little trouble getting it to work in Sonar! I think it works best in Sonar 32bit because it is a 32bit VST and it does conform to the GM, XG standard. OH, well so much for the TTS-1!
