have you tried NOT using the instrument switch on the mixer?

I've tried it without using the instrument switch on the mixer and obviously the signal is weaker so I have to raise the main level on the mixer. I'm not at home just now so can't remember what the level is.

Your implying that as long  the mixer level is high enough I should forget about raising the level with the instrument switch? Apologies for labouring the point - I'd just like to clear this up as I have been thinking about it for a few weeks...

Yes.   if you have problems with the instrument switch on and can't get the levels high enough without clipping, try it with it off and increase the gain.

also - most mixers have both a slider and a trim.  make sure your trim is up high enough - even with the instrument switch on.

Greg, this seems relevant to a couple of threads we have going now.
Maybe it will help.
Beagle, no, I never did. This was right when things started getting crazy back home. But as things change, I am still hoping to do a part two. No promises at this point.
