  • How much money does one make from over a billion YouTube views?

I'd never followed this Avicii's music (the young DJ chap who just died) - not my kind of thing really, but my GF had me dial up a couple of his videos on YT earlier tonight and we couldn't believe that they had view counts into the billions - I had to do a double take when I saw the figure. Like this one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcrbM1l_BoI

And in the sidebar there was another video by a band called One Republic that has views totalling 2.2 billion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT_nvWreIhg

To be honest I never even conceived of YT views getting that high, total news to me lol! Presuming that these videos are monetized (I use AdBlock so I wouldn't know for sure), does anyone know what sort of $$$'s such view counts earn? The mind boggles!

Yeah, it is 0.00175 * 1,000,000,000 or 1.75 million.

Assuming the vids were monetized.   Which, "maybe," the VeVo.   Which definitely went, "straight to the label." and Aviccii would have made about 98% of his money on tours.   Unless he had a great financial planner...  which, pffft, as drunk as he looked would have been, "unlikely," to say the least.

I'm sure his net worth was, "sliced and diced," by Swedish Taxes.   And he probably was left with 50% at best of what he earned.  Possibly 40% or even 30%   Swedish taxes are no joke.   Aviccii could have very easily grossed $100 million in earnings and been worth close to $25 million at his death

Hmmm ... That means approx 500 views pr. dollar. Tough way to make a living as a troubadour.

Not to mention estate taxes.   Likely he didn't do any estate planning.   I just don't get the, "savvy planner," vibe here.

I'm sure that after Swedish Estate Taxes, "likely to eat up more than half of what he had left when he died," his extended family is, "hand in the cookie jar," on what is likely 15 million, or closer to 10...

Oh, and lets not forget.  "cost to make and market video that will be monetized."   Now this works for you when you are, "Gummo," and your video has gone viral.   Works completely against you when you are, "Beyoncé," and possibly, "Avicii," and need to spend actual money creating and marketing the video.

Gummo (aka my favorite Ted Talk) has made about $350,000 off his youtube video - (gross estimate 175 million * 0.002)

Taylor Swift (aka my favorite Bed Talk) has lost more money then Gummo will ever monetize in its youtube life with her new music video

She also has, "200 million views," on a video that cost at least a cool $1 million to make.
