I'm all for user videos, but a good percentage of them that I've watched are....unwatchable.
1 - Preparation. Videos should be well prepared, they should be concise and to the point.
So many videos I've seen are filled with lots of "Ummms" and "Uhhhs". And the instructors searching for the right button to push. "No, not that one. Sorry I'll find it eventually"
2 - Get to the point already. Again preparation. I've seen videos spend five minutes on something that only needs a short explanation. Even beginner tutorials spend a lot of unnecessary time on obvious things.
3 - Video unwatchable. Many tutorials have video that is either not relevant to what's being said, or badly displayed making it very hard for the viewer to actually see what's being done.
4 - Demonstrations of the tutorials. Tutorials should have step by step instructions on how to do something. And yes examples are great, but when the examples take up more time than the actual instructions, they need to be edited. 20 minute videos can usually be made in half the time if the creator plans it out correctly.
5 - Speech and audio. Many videos have someone that is not mic'd correctly or you just can't understand what they are saying.
Even some professional (company made) tutorial videos suffer from these issues. Again a well planned storyboard goes a long way in video presentations. I get so frustrated sometimes in watching these videos, it reminds me of some concert videos where the director is zoomed in on a drum stick tapping on a cymbal, while the lead guitarist is performing a killer solo. You just want to scream at the screen, and say "C'mon, get the right shot!!!!"
Maybe my background in professional video production leaves me a little more critical and frustrated then most folks, but I've heard these complaints from a lot of other people as well.
