I will admit that since buying Waves Gold and lots of other plugins my plugin count has become quite high although there are probably other people with more. In any case, a professional level DAW should expect folk to add lots of plugins.
 
However, whenever I add a new plugin I always dread the lengthy wait I will have to try it out due to Sonar scanning ALL those other plugins that it already knows about :-( It seems particularly slow at scanning the Waves ones. I have even taken to trying new plugs out quickly in Cantabile as I know it will find and add anything new fairly quickly compared to Sonar.
 
Anyway, it occurred to me that it should be possible to provide an option to "only scan this new plugin I just added", especially if you know it's location (not usually too hard to find out).
 
At this point, I am probably expecting one of three replies....
a. You can already do that like this....
b. Good idea, why not suggest it to the Bakers
c. It's not recommended because....

Any thoughts?

The default scan options in preferences are "Automatic Background Scan" enabled with both rescan options not checked. If the rescan options are checked, change to one of the other scan options and deselect the rescan options.

Yes , scook set me straight and took me to school on that one
With all the box's checked my typical VST scan went for almost a half an hour ...unchecked less than a few mins

Even a minute would be a long scan. I have a little over 600 plug-ins in two directory trees and with automatic background scan enabled SONAR is ready in a couple seconds. Granted all the plug-ins are on an SSD and some of you have many more plug-ins.

That's what I was hoping someone would say and yes I had forgotten about that option and must have changed it a long time ago.

p.s. the longest scan time I've had recently was around 20 minutes and now I think of it I do remember Sonar having the default behaviour at some point in the dim and distant ;-) At least it was an easy fix; I like those types of problem :D

Also remember that when installing, you may end up with mono, stereo, VST2, and VST3 versions of the same plug-in. You can exclude the plug-ins you don't need.
