Can i make say 5 individual tracks for use with addictive drums 2 and then just drag the loops i like onto them tracks  ?
I cannot work out how i get them to play , I am having to create new instrument tracks for every single new loop i drag from there

I am probably not setting it up right or something , But i would like the 1 addictive drums instrument tracks but then say 5 more tracks below it so i can drag whatever i like from addictive drums onto them and it plays them all .

Thanks

You can achieve this using a "SIT". Unless of course you want access to each individual kit piece.

You probably don't want a simple instrument track in this case.

Create one track for the VST, then create multple MIDI tracks that direct their output to the instrument track.

im not sure he is looking to do multi drum tracks (he could be) but it seems more like he wants to drag loops in to a midi track to trigger AD2. this can easily be achieved by using an SIT.

I don't know Stick.. maybe your right, that OP was a little confusing to me

I'm not too clear on what you are asking. AD2 plays MIDI drum patterns and comes bundled with quite a few of them. Are they what you mean by "loops"?

You can either use AD2 as a simple instrument track, drag different MIDI patterns into the track and play. Or route it as a traditional kit with multiple outs for each drum/bus.

You don't need to add an additional instance of AD2 for each pattern if that's what you mean.

If you just want to drag patterns out of the plugin and onto Sonar's track view to arrange, then you can simply use one instance of the AD2 instrument, and add as many MIDI tracks as you like, directing all of them to the AD2.

Yep, you should be able to add your midi tracks, point the output of each to Addictive Drums and that should be it. Out of curiosity why are you wanting each drum pattern to be on its own midi track? Is there an advantage to doing it that way?

I've done tracks where I made use of several different AD patterns for various parts of the song. But I just drag them all to the same midi track and arrange them in the order I want them.

I think the advantage to using multiple midi tracks would be to approach them like take lanes.

Try different variations on each track and mute/solo tracks as desired until you have what you like.

Ah, makes sense. I tend to not like having multiple tracks driving the same sound source (harder for me to keep everything straight when mixing I guess) but I could see it being handy for quickly auditioning several different drum patterns.
