  • EZDrummer 2 Still Won't Work with Sonar - Resolved?

Months ago, I had completely uninstalled EZDrummer and then reinstalled only EZDrummer 1 because EZDrummer 2 screwed up all my projects.  I understood from posts here and announcements on the Toontrack site that the problems were resolved.

I just installed the latest version of EZD2 and applied the most recent updates.  When I opened an existing project, inputs and outputs for all the tracks—not just drums—were all screwed up.  I had to re-establish all the Ins and Outs and every track for both MIDI and audio, which meant splitting all the simple instrument tracks.

Luckily, I created a restore point on my PC, so EZD2 is about to go away forever (hopefully).  I will use EZD1 when I need it but I will not continue with Toontrack products and I will never upgrade again.  If I need more drums, I will buy another product.

By the way, my project may be corrupted even if I restore my PC—and I hope the restore works.

This is quite unbelievable.

Go into EZdrummer and turn on the SONAR option in the Menu.  When you open a project with EZD2 in it, it will ask you how many channels you want to use.  Select 8 and your channels will be preserved in the other softsynths.

Hmm, Dave.  That's good to know.  I actually just restored my system, but I can reinstall EZ2.  The thing is, the second I open an existing project, my Ins/Outs are hosed, so are you saying this is only for new projects?  Or will setting this option fix all the broken Ins/Outs? Or, do I need to set the option and manually fix the Ins/Outs?  Sorry, just want to understand—but this is excellent information.  Thanks.

PS I don't really need the new EZD2 features that much (although they are nice) but I do like the extra drum kits, handclaps, and tamb.

No, just open a project.  Change the EZD2 settings and close the project without saving anything.  After that, when a Sonar project that contains EZD2 opens it will display a box asking whether you want to open 8 channels or 16 channels.  That way you can do both.

I've only got one legacy project that uses EZD1 and it works perfectly.  Eventually, I will reset all of the midi channels in that project and then I won't have to use the SONAR option.

Sorry, Konrad, I read your post on my phone but have only just returned home so that I can post, and Dave has already answered your query.

If I open up a project that used EZd1 (or a legacy project in Dave speak), I click on "Menu/Sonar Options" and choose "Show number of outputs on startup", then close the project.  When you then re-open the project, choose "8 Outputs", and all is well.

I don't have EXd do this all the time, only when I open a project that I started with EZd1.

How about drum maps for EZd2... I'm totally lost when it comes to that.

I wish drum maps could be built with a spreadsheet or something else that would speed up the process. The only way I know to do it now is in the Drum Map Manager and it's kind of tedious. I don't use drum maps so I haven't had the motivation to create any since the first year EZDrummer came out.

I do have older ones from EZd 1 such as the drum kit from hell and vintage drums ....they're close but not perfect, I have been editing the drum names, hopefully they stuck with the project save. I haven't checked yet.

I've scoured the TT site and there is no signs of maps like there used to be.

Also try to avoid simple instrument tracks. You really will find life much easier without them.

John, On simple instrument tracks, are you referring to EZD?  I typically don't do that.  I do use simple instrument tracks for Kontakt/Scarbee bass, SI Elec Piano, and other single-sounds VIs (just to avoid clutter).  Is that a problem?
