Is there any advantage or disadvantage to running Cakewalk by BandLab as Administrator in Windows 10?

All I know is that when some plugs didn't work right and I changed to Run as Administrator, they worked.
 
But, daryl1968 has a mouse of some sort (trackball IIRC) that would not allow him to Run as Administrator.

It won't hurt to run as administrator. This will give the program full permission to access all files on your HD.

With full respect to John - running apps as admin except under special circumstance (for example installations or troubleshooting) is not considered a good practice.
 
Except for installing or updating you should never have to run any non-system program on Windows 7 or 10 as admin. Any program or plugin that requires Admin rights to run is badly written or obsolete and should be avoided.
I never run Sonar or CbB as admin and never have issues*.
*related to or because of that... everyone has issues now & then (ie glitches or pilot error).
 
Note that you can avoid a lot of hassles by running & authorizing new plugins in a VST minihost such as SaviHost http://www.hermannseib.com/english/savihost.htm or Image Line's MiniHost http://www.image-line.com/documents/news.php?tag=minihost+modular before running Cakewalk's VST scanner.
 
 
 

Another thing to bear in mind is that Windows security is also linked to status privileges. Running as admin will disable drag/drop functionality into an elevated program. It also allows a program to make systemic changes to a machine, so is good practice not to use unless necessary (installations, registrations, and the like) as mentioned above.

I have run programs as administrator and have not had any problem doing so. Been doing so for years. The updates to Windows 10 has made permissions more troublesome. I have a lot of HDs on my system and each had to allow access. This is not automatic. I had to add permissions for all of them due to clean new install of windows.  If a program does not have full control due to a limit on security you have to either change the permissions on the disk or run as an administrator. Even then it may not work without adjusting permissions. I maintain it wont hurt to do so. I don't recommend doing so on just any program. I don't think Cakewalk is a program that will harm ones system if it is run as an administrator.      

I only run as admin for the Pentagon VST.

Ditto on all the above (multiple HDs, clean installs of Windows, etc.) except by not having run as admin I haven't had  those issues. I also have multiple systems (Win 7 & Win10) with shared folders & drives. It's kinda of the case that because you did it in the past you need to do it on your current system(s).
