Thank you thats helpful. It looks similar to a problem we are investigating in BandLab Assistant.

Hi you must INSTALL through BandLab assistant. Trying to run the installer manually will not result in a successful installation.

FYI

I had the CbB  and Assistant file in my downloads. I you saw in my thread I uninstalled them both in a stupid moment we can forget why...

All I did was re install the assistant and log on.
Then I ran the CbB executable directly as Admin and it work just fine.
I will be installing it to my Laptop at some point this week and my plan was to copy the 2 files over using a USB stick and run them from there.
So am I correct that really all that is required is to be Logged on to the Assistant?

This is what I've found...

- The initial install needs to be via BandLab Assistant; since you're logged in to BandLab (which you have to be to download/install Cakewalk), the authorisation process works, and a file is written to the ProgramData folder (see below) which contains the information for Cakewalk (the DAW) to know it's been authorised.

- Subsequent installs can be using the cakewalk.exe file that BLA downloads to your Downloads folder *provided* you haven't (like I did by accident!) futzed with the C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core folder's contents too badly.  If you have, you'll need to re-run the installer via BLA, which necessarily re-downloads the cakewalk.exe installer.

- Once you've installed correctly, you don't need to be running BLA and can sign out of BLA should you want to (probably uninstall it even, although I haven't tested that!) - it's the initial installation that requires you to be logged in and installing via BLA.

I notice there are 2 instances of BandLab Assistant.exe under processes in Task Manager. One is 35,924K in size. The other is 31,096K. When I close BA they don't disappear. Is that intentional?

There should be 3 background processes called BandLab Assistant when "X"ing out of the app. To completely shutdown BA use the Quit option on the menu attached to the gear in the upper left of the BA UI.

I'm only seeing 2. But there is a third one that appears briefly when I launch the app but then immediately disappears.

I've just downloaded and installed the BandLab Assistant update (v3.0.6) but this didn't solve anything. CbB remains in demo mode.

What happens if you open BandLab Assistant and sign in there.  From the Apps tab in BandLab Assistant, uninstall Cakewalk by Bandlab and then reinstall Cakewalk by Bandlab.

Uninstall via BandLab Assistant doesn't work. Clicking on it does nothing.

I got out of this problem by:

Making sure I had Bandlab Assistant 3.0.6 installed (not 3.0.4)
Un-installed CbB
RE-downloaded CbB (it didn't work if I tried to use the original download files)
Install CdB using Bandlab Assistant.

Although this re-install stuck at 100% and didn't complete, I terminated Bandlab Assistant and ran the files which had been downloaded, and all went well.

In my experience, missing out any one of these steps resulted in failure to cure Demo Mode.
During one of the many failed attempts, I did see that Bandlab Assistant in Task Manager tries more than 46 times to open Powershell, which speaks to Noel's point above.

Hope this helps.
