• SONAR
  • Simple Pitch Correct VST?

Hi Guys,

Is there a free pitch correct VST I could use in Sonar that would simply correct slight pitch issues with audio instrument tracks that I can also set the baseline tuning as well?   In other words, say I have a song that is slightly flat (430 for example) and I record a bass track that I wish to pitch correct while also having the result be in tune for that song.   I located a VST called Gsnap, but it doesn't appear to be able to set baseline tuning for audio (just MIDI)?

I realize I could try to use something like V-Vocal, but would instead prefer a simple VST to patch into the track just to nudge occasional pitch issues.

Any guidance greatly appreciated....

Hi. It depends on which version of SONAR you have? SONAR X3 and newer has Melodyne. It includes ARA
All the best.

Melodyne works really well for fixing pitch variations.
It takes some knowledge of the controls but it is well worth learning because it is so universal (Vocals, Guitars, Basses, Exc).

No such luck WRT Melodyne since for this project I'm using old Sonar V6 on which the song was originally recorded.

GSnap is well-regarded and free (In fact the whole G-series is worth grabbing):

Understood. But can Gsnap do pitch correcting relative to a baseline other than conventional alignment?  In other words, instead of A440 could it do 430, etc?   That's the part which isn't clear, the manual seems to show calibration control but only for MIDI, not Audio.  ??

I had no V6, but:
a) if you have Melodyne installed (otherwise you can test it), it can work standalone or as VST (without ARA). So I guess it should be possible to use it under V6 (I mean it should have VST 2.4 support)
b) at least in modern Sonars, you can mark any clip as "Groove" (in the right click menu), then in the Clip Properties / Groove section you can change the pitch.

Sorry, but I only remembered it from a review, and have never used it myself (I have Melodyne).

GSnap seems well-covered on YouTube.  Maybe look around there?

I just looked around further on YouTube and found one video where it looks as if the outline of the Calibrate control is NOT inside the MIDI control groupings.  So maybe the instructions are in error to some extent.  Maybe if I get brave enough I'll install it, but I tend to avoid installing anything further on this old system out of fear something might crash it, at least until I'm very confident the plug will actually serve the purpose.

Thanks for the feedback guys, if you think of anything further please let me know....
