  • Is Ripple edit broken? Bus automation is not copied

Hi all!
I have some problems with the new ripple edit feature - it does not seem to copy bus automation.

I do the following:

  1. I select Ripple Edit All
  2. I click between two markers
  3. I drag & drop copy by selecting the top-most clip
  4. Everything in the PRV is very nicely duplicated, but bus automation is not copied correctly

Am I doing something wrong, or is bus automation (currently) not affected by ripple editing?

Drag and drop doesn't seem to work properly with Ripple Edit on. I've had some really strange results. I can only effectively use it with the cut and paste commands, not with drag and drop. Would be really good to have that functionality added. It's the intuitive way to use it, to me; it's the first thing I tried with it.

Thanks for replying John, and very interesting that you also find drag & drop not working correctly. I will post a report on this to the bug report forum.

Does bus automation get copied correctly when you use copy/cut/paste commands?

Are you saying you only have this problem when ripple edit all is on? Or do you have the problem regardless of ripple edit?

When you drag drop, is the bus pain visible in track view? Are the buses selected as well as the tracks?

My guess is that this isn't specific to ripple edit. All ripple edit does is determine how things are moved about to make room for edits.

Can you clarify what's not working?
Bus automation is being rippled here with Ripple Edit All.

NOTE: to avoid serious mistakes like deleting a note in the PRV or Staff view and suddenly losing part of your project, we only allow ripple editing in the Track View.
If you are working in any other view, Ripple Editing doesn't take effect.   That's why the feature is in the Track View options menu.

The way we've defined ripple editing, think of the project like a sheet of paper.  What you move left/right applies to everything after the point you move.

If you want to shuffle reorder things, the best way to do that is through cut/paste.  That's technically not a ripple as we've defined it, but a shuffle :)  We'll consider it for the future though.

Also, that said, drag copy is pushing over the bus automation at the paste.  It's expected to have a flatline there because it's inserting.

I do see an issue with trying to include the bus automation from the src location at the paste location.  That isn't doing the right thing on paste.  We will look into that.

Keith - your last animation explains exactly what happens to me: the bus automation just flatlines instead of being correctly copied.

I suppose you have "Ripple Edit Selection" active on your animation? In that case I can agree with the bus automation flatlining, since it's not included in the selection.

But when I have "Ripple Edit All" activated, I would expect bus animation to be copied as well... right?

Pinging @Keith - was the issue you found the same I meant? :) (I think so, but I wanna make sure...)

Do I need to also post this report in the Problem Reports forum?
