I recenty upgraded to Windows 7 and Sonar X2a.  It has been taking a bit to get going did not come equipped with a pocket protector.  It appears, I successfully downloaded the correct driver for the VS-700 as things are working.  I just got started with it so it is still a little early to be emphatic.  I opened an X1 Tutorial and it played nicely through the system.  I didn't do much with it except use the start/stop and some other buttons on the VS-700 Console.

I opened a new project and was able to record some audio on it.  That was good.  I also was able to record a bit on a MIDI track.  That also, was good.

Now, I want to use the Fantom.  So, I got to Insert > Soft Synth and the Fantom does not appear.  I have the Fantom checked on my MIDI devices.  So, I was wondering if there was a special driver for Windows 7 which will enable X2 to see and access the Fantom.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

64 bit or 32 bit windows 7 and Sonar ? Make sure you have the correct ports selected in the Fantom Editor Midi setup. The Fantom behaves differently in 64 bit. For me, minimizing the Editor and then maximizing it again loses the sound until you click on the Sonar Icon in the task bar in 64 bit Sonar and windows.

I've got 64 bit.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to get to the Fantom Editor Midi setup.

My hardware is hooked up exactly the same way it was hooked up when I had Sonar 8.5 and X1.  For some reason, there isn't a recognition of the existence of the Fantom.  As I was trying to say, in a project and when I try to insert the Fantom as a soft synth, it doesn't even show in the drop down menu.  It shows Cakewalk TTS, Cyclone, Pentagon and others but no Fantom as it did in 8.5 and X1.

Did you install the special Fantom installer file? http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013246 If not do so. Make sure you have the correct updates.

Thanks Craig.  I did the download the Fantom VS Editor & ARX Editor Installer from the link you provided.

It appears to have worked.  Now, I've got Fantom VS (32-Bit) in the drop down menu for soft synths.  If I understand correctly, the 32 bit will work though I've got the 64 bit.

Thanks again.

I was able to insert the Fantom as a soft synth.  In my experiment, I inserted it as a simple instrument track.  Now, for the life of me, I cannot find the Fantom Editor.  The only window I have is the main window when I opened this test project.  I've got a track which says Fantom VS1 and it shows in the Console View, too.

Disregard the previous post.  I found it.  There is a little window on the upper right corner which has three tabs:  Media, Plugins, and Synth.  Under Synth, the Fantom VS1 was there and I clicked on it and the Editor appeared.

Still not there.

I've got a brief track with some chords I played on my MIDI controller.  However, I am not getting any audio from the Fantom.

I've got the input as Fantom VS MIDI Omni and the output is on Master.

In the Editor, for Set Up MIDI Devices, the Fantom VS Input is Fantom VS as well as the output.

Just as an experiment, I inserted the Cakewalk TTS soft synth (simple instrument track) and copied the previous MIDI track.  It works for the TTS.  I am getting the audio.  Just can't figure out how to get the audio in the Fantom.  There isn't any activity in the VU meters, either.

Still haven't found a solution as to why I can't get the audio on my Fantom track.  I wrote Roland earlier today and hopefully, I'll get some sort of solution tomorrow.
