Thanks Mesh, and all others who have lent their assistance here.  I am so focused on writing and recording right now that the technical aspects of Sonar are kind of slowing the flow.

Thanks again,

You're most welcome Art.

Yes, there's a bit of a learning curve using Sonar and I for one have been managing to get by with just the basics. Also, check out Youtube for tons of tutorials.......somebody else also would've gone through a similar situation.

Please post back on how it went with bouncing/freezing.

For limited size clip AD2 has audio recorder function, drag and drop "wave" at bottom left in AD2 into Sonar track window, after playing/recording it in AD2 (solo individual kit piece/s as desired), but bounce to tracks is simplest/quickest way. I guess you could route a sub-mix analog output back to an analog input, unmonitored (avoid echoed feedback), if you want to go through such an effort, but why not just bounce to track.

Yes there is a fair bit to take on board and it's difficult to recommend any specific advice because we don't know what you want out of this.

As an example, is this the final version of your drums for use in a song or do you just want a stereo wav for use elsewhere?

Are you happy with the processing you've applied or do you intend to add anything like EQ, compression, reverb etc?

Let us know the answers to these questions and we can offer more targeted advice

So I froze the track, then I copied the audio file from that bounced track onto another audio track. From there I exported it as a wav file and then imported it back into the original project. I know it sounds like a lot of steps, but it did work and now I can move forward with the project. Thanks to all for your help, it's really great to have a community to reach out to.
Best,

I'm curious why you needed the audio at all? I leave drum tracks as midi unless I want to do something silly with a specific piece of kit, and even then I leave the rest as midi. I'm wondering if I'm missing out on something good?

I don't think you're missing anything Kevin, I leave my drums as midi permanently.

I also don't know that you are missing something.  It is perhaps habit that I have audio tracks to mix down.  Your way is probably an easier way, I just like having all the audio files to work with.  Perhaps I need to re-evaluate my habits.

Nothing wrong with freezing synth tracks!  Especially for older systems where resources can run low.  Or for archival purposes; e.g., if the plugin used for whatever reason isn't available in the future (something I should do more).

FWIW, when I freeze I often archive and hide the original synth track so it's no longer using resources.  Or sometimes I'll take that frozen audio, copy the clip to a new audio track, and then mess with it from there.   All kinds of possibilities...

Doh! That makes a heck of a lot of sense. I can also see doing it when you want to send the project out for mixing or mastering by someone else. Thanks!
