My MO8 was stolen last year. I miss it, along with my Hammond XK-1 they also took. I decided to replace two instruments with one more powerful and applied the equivalent bucks to a Korg Kronos, and that's my primary input device these days. The Yamaha keyboard action was much better for piano, but the Kronos strikes an acceptable balance for many instrument types. It's weighted differently in different octaves, heavier at the low end and gets lighter as you go up (somewhat like an acoustic piano). So if I need a really light action I just play it near the top of the keyboard.

I also have an Axiom 49 that I prefer for organ. Its faster synth action feels closer to a Hammond keyboard. The MO8's piano-style keys and stiff action would literally skin my knuckles doing glissandos, which is what prompted me to buy the Axiom.

My usual go-to bass is Orange Tree Samples' Rickenbacker. That's what I used initially on this recording, since it's probably the instrument McCartney used in the original. But I'd been experimenting a lot with Trillian over the past year and dropped it in just for grins. Once I removed all the OTS articulations I liked it better. Trillian has a couple really nice acoustic basses that alone are worth the price of admission. But I'll still stick with the Rick for heavier genres.

So sad when an instrument is stolen! Years ago, I had a bass stolen while in NYC as part of a pit band for a theater group. In a separate incident, I had my car window smashed in Philly and a beautiful old Mexican Telecaster was lifted. Lessons learned.

Then there's the story of the guy who left his accordion on the back seat of an unlocked car. When he returned, he was shocked to find two accordions there.

I have finally replaced my Hammond. Yesterday I ordered a Crumar Mojo. Come on, FedEx! Hurry it up!

This is really nice -- i admire the risk people take covering Beatles songs because, you know, by comparison you can never really win.

That said, I didn't recall this song so it is a fresh tune for me.  I thought it was all really really good.  The organ in particular has a really warm feeling to it.  If I was going to pick on anything, at times the lead vocal sits a little too far back in the mix, especially toward the end.  But i struggle mightily getting vocals together so I am a lousy perspective on that point.

Not sure why Lennon singled this one out for scorn.  Sometimes I think he said stuff just to get people going.  Thanks for sharing!

Haha on the accordion joke. :)

And congrats on the new board! Wow, if this is what you just ordered, I'm totally jealous! https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MojoDual

...I have always thought this song was great and loved the chord progression...

There was once a thread in a Beatles forum about the White Album, where the topic was "if the album was a single album rather than a double, which songs would you want to see included". People had submitted their personal choices. Looking through all the different lists, I was amazed to find that nobody had included "Cry Baby Cry". I would certainly have included it myself. I think it's a gem. I was also a bit surprised that almost everyone had included "Birthday", which I regard as a filler.

Nah, I bought the single-manual version. More compact and $800 less.

There are stages we play on that are so small that fitting two keyboards is a challenge, so I needed the compactness. I have a 2-tier stand but I don't like stacking keyboards - being able to see the Kronos' touchscreen is essential.

Plus I feel like Rick Wakeman when I play two keyboards at once. I should dig out my old sequined cape from my psychedelic days.

But yeah, you can still be jealous.

The Beatles were/are Mason's. That's the spell you're under and that's their fairy dust. 666. (j/k)

I listened to both versions. I also agree that the first one was on the "brittle" side. The re-post is much better but I seem to be very sensitive to the higher frequencies and the high end still seems it could use more adjustment, though what I'm hearing is spotty. Sometimes it sounds fine and the bass comes through nice.

The vocals match the cover well and you have a good voice. Regardless of all the above mentioned you did a hell of job with this cover and it is very enjoyable-truly. A lot of good stuff in this track for sure.

You probably have better sensitivity to high frequencies than I do (I'm 66). I have to rely on spectrum analyzers to inform me about content above 15 KHz - and, of course, comments by folks such as yourself who can hear things that I cannot. So thanks for that observation.
