I'm having difficulty installing Sonar 23.5.0.32 onto a new SSD.
I keep getting this error message:

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\CW120Auto.dll
Unable to register DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3

I have downloaded and tried the install three times now via Command Centre and directly from Cakewalk,
and get the same message each time.
What does it mean and is there a fix?
Thanks for any help.

Cheers

Are you running everything "As Administrator"?

Have you installed all Windows updates for your OS?

Thanks for the quick response guys.
Running a new install of Windows 7, so all updates are probably not complete.
I will look into the responses.

any reason not to jump to win10 if you're doing a fresh os install?

Well, I guess that was it. Updated W7 to Service pack 1 and all is good.

I guess updating to Win10 should be the way to go, but I just can't warm to it.
I have win10 on a laptop and I just don't like the look of it for some reason. maybe it's too
clinical looking or something. Purely subjective reasoning I know. One day perhaps.

Cheers all.

The look and feel of Windows 10 can be tamed with the right software.  Once you have Windows 10 configured how you like it, just make an image your system disk every so often (of course this would not replace a nightly backup).

I was sceptical about Windows 10 at first, but when I was starting to read the good experiences people were having with Sonar and Windows 10, I though I would give it a go.  I ended up going for Windows 10 Pro 64bit Retail.  It might be placebo (or the fact that it was a fresh install) , but Sonar seemed to run a lot smoother as a result.

The look, feel and telemetry can be tamed with the right software. I would never go back to Windows 10.

Also, there is January 2020 looming as the time when Microsoft will no longer deliver updates for Windows 7.

HARDDRlVER
A few years ago I woke to find MS had forced win 10 onto my laptop. Damn laptop was never meant for 10 in the 1st place when I did a test. Yet, there it was. I could not stand it. I can barely get by 8.1.
I worked in an upscale pawnshop for some 30+ years and I saw hundreds of computers come in. Out of all the OS's i reztored to factory fresh systems, I found xp-sp3 and 7 sp1 the most reliable. I dreaded 8 coming in, and 10 was simply a pain.
My current system is 7 sp1 and while support is waning, I still think it's the best thing MS has ever released. It just seems that there's so much internal bloating of the system, as if it's taking everything the computer's got, just to keep windows up and running.

Just my two synths
