Hi,

How do I make a template without keeping all the MIDI and automation data?  It's an endless task of removing all the automation data.

I know it seems like a pain in rear, but for some people this feature is a blessing.
However, I am not one of those people who think it is a blessing .
But we have to respect others ways of working just like they would us.

What I do is delete all the content by selecting - right click lasso.
Then press delete special. Then save the template as a different name. Incase something happens you want to be able to load your original project.
There's nothing worse than deleting all your tracks and then accidentally saving it as a project instead of a template.

That's why im not a fan of this. I would like to see (probably like you) a fail safe way to save templates that doesn't include projects.
There is debate though that project templates were never made to be used like that.
I typically set up my templates from scratch.

Select all tracks (ctrl+a) and go to edit --> delete special and tick the boxes of the data you want to delete.

In case ctrl*a doesn't select all the data, you can also select the range that you want to delete in the timeline.
To do this: go to the beginning of the project(w). Press ctrl+a. Go to the end and hold down shift while clicking on the timeline.

Don't we still have the Wipe Tracks function?

Create the template from a copy of the project then there's no danger of what you may or may not lose.

After you work out a system it's really not that arduous a task.

This is another good method. (making a copy of the project).
I would just like to see an option added or even just lose the data included in templates.
You can always copy the project anyway, so (Like the OP) I don't understand why project templates insist on saving the audio and midi content along with the template.
Because it is some what of a PIA. As I said in my previous post, I tend to create project templates from scratch but a few times I have used an existing project to create a template and its somewhat bizarre I need to remove all the track data first.

Never knew that function existed. 🙂 Seems to be the easiest way to erase the track data

I forgot that was there. I thought they took that out after X3.
Is it still there ? it would be in the -Track view > Tracks menu.
