Creative Labs does supply what they call ASIO drivers with their sound cards. Close inspection will find they are in the same lowly place asio4all and really a WDM wrapper so don't work with Sonar very well.

Thanks for that clarification, every time I saw the OP I was confused by it.

For those who are rightfully cautious about downloading documents heres the blurb in text:
There is a lot of choices.
Make a list of your requirements first.
.
What kind of connectivity do you require? and how many of each.
These are some of the options:

.
<snip>
.
.

An excellent post. Might be an idea if it were stickied at the top of the relevant forum under the title "before asking which interface to buy, read this."

The only thing I'd add to your list is a warning - "when deciding how many inputs are wanted always add two to the number you come up with, because unless you are unusually immune to gear acquisition, the odds are you'll need them one day".

I'm about to drop the coin on either a Saffire Pro 40 or Liquid Saffire 56

Off to do some reading....

for the Op,have been using a Liquid 56 and Octo pre for 4 years now with zero problems.
so,start with the 56 and add the Octo pre if you want to record live or with a kit.
The 56 presets are very clean and the emulations on the two main pre`s are realistic and easy to dial up.
there was an issue with MixControl early on but it was mostly poor user setup and some tardy patches.
if we could just fix the search engine in the Hardware forum?-am sure there`s a sticky on this somewhere??

...wicked
I use a Roland Octa-Capture for my main rig and although it's mostly great occasional driver issues creep up and it acts weird. Looks like support for them is non-existent now which is a drag because otherwise it's an amazing interface.

I picked up a Focusrite 2i2 for my mobile rig a while back and it performs spectacularly (esp. for the price). Granted I don't work it like my my main DAW rig but I've been very very happy with it.
