  • Midi CC Conversion/re-routing in real time?

Hi, all!

I'm hoping to get a bit of help on this. I'd like to implement the following functionality in my template:

1. I'd like to be able to ride a fader in real time (specifically, Mod Wheel), and have it send a different CC to a VST; meaning, even though the mod wheel usually sends CC 1, I'd like it to send CC 11 to Kontakt or Play. Same idea with Pitch bend; I'd like to remap it in real time to send a different CC to Kontakt or Play, and record that as a controller lane.

2. I'd also like to scale that CC data in real time; for example, I'd like to have the pitch bend wheel send CC 11 data, but send it at a ratio of 2:1, so that when the pitch bend wheel is at neutral, it's sending not 50% of CC 11, but 100% of CC 11.

Can anyone help me out with this? No biggie if you can't, but I'm trying to figure out how to do that. Again, it needs to be in real time, for playability. My templates are focused on real time playability, not post playing tweaking.

Thank you all in advance for any advice!
Best,

Mike

What keyboard controller do you have?  Are you able to configure the keyboard controller itself to assign another CC to the Mod wheel rather than the standard of CC1?

Check out BOME MIDI Translator. That may do it for you

CC MapI've had a need for it. Others have asked me for it. So I made an MFX plugin to do it. You'll get the knack of fiddling with the Low/High values in no time. Be aware that you can flip the low/high output values to invert the direction of the CC. Combine this with the "Pass Along Input CC" option (aka "play-through"), and you'll have instant cross-fading action! As of v1.3, you can also manipulate Channel Pressure/Mono-Aftertouch messages. v1.4 fixes some Cubase project load failure oddness. This should re-map for you, but I don't think it will scale greater than 100%

Thank you all for the quick replies!

I'm using the old M Audio Prokeys 88 SX, but I'm upgrading to a new controller this summer. I don't believe my current one has the ability to hardware remap CC data.

Kamikaze, your MFX plugins look to do exactly what I need, esp. the pitch Wheel remap. Thank you! I'll take a look at them this week.

I'll also check out BOME. Have a great day, all!

He has one specifically for PW.

PW-MapMike Kelley was in a jam: "Here's my problem -- my midi keyboard doesn't have a mod wheel (ugh) and I need a mod wheel to control volume (no other way around it with GPO)." Now with MFX PW-Map, Mike can remap his Pitch Wheel to send any CC information he wants, even partitioned bi-directionally! Set up for Garritan Personal Orchestra by default, but usable with other systems that need creative controls as well.

Just so you know and can apply proper credit to the creator, the MFX plugins were created by Markleford Friedman (Forum name: Markleford).  He has several additional useful plugins at http://www.tencrazy.com/gadgets/mfx/ .  The plugins are all free to use, but you can also donate if you find them useful.

Hope this helps,

The reason I posted was because it appeared the OP thought that the MFX were created by you and I wanted to make sure that the appropriate credit was applied to the actual creator of the plugins.  No offense intended.
