I'm currently trying to complete a music assignment on Sonar and the sound isn't working.
I'm not very familiar with Sonar, but to my knowledge it should be working.
I've inserted a synth etc, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think a little more info on your setup may be needed.

Assuming you have powered speakers or an amp of some sort attached to your sound interface/card out...........

Then the synth needs to be routed ultimately to your main outs, either directly from it's audio out channel or via a buss that does.

Obvious things to check are no tracks or busses muted/solo'd, speakers turned up & on. etc.

Ultimately more info though on how you have your gear & Sonar set up will help us help you.

I'm just using basic computer speakers, man.
Everything's working, just no sound.

To echo FastBikerBoy - who knows his stuff btw - we need to know your sound card, and whatever input devices / interfaces you have.  Once we know we can find out if you have the correct driver setup, and have set up output cusses correctly.  If you have no sound from a DAW it really doesn't suggest everything is working.

Yeah. Car is working perfectly, it just doesn't move. Are you trying to be  funny? We're not mindreaders. With the info you've given, nobody can help you without spending half a dozen posts for milking the info from you. Why do you expect us to spend our free time for such???

But before you can listen to it you have to do a setup, just like with all the other programs you are using. Have you been to the basic setup screen? What drivers are you using? What soundcard are you using? You have to answer these questions before we can help you. Do not forget - Sonar is no "toy" application and need some decent setup before you can start using it.

Isn't that a contradiction in terms?

All of the requests for further info are genuine to help you, not waste your time, or more importantly ours.

"No Sound" with a soft synth could be caused by several dozen different things. All we need to know are you basic set up.

Answer these then...

Soundcard. Onboard? External?

Speakers? Powered or plugged into an amp?
How are they connected to the computer, via the onboard soundcard or a 'proper' interface?

Softsynth? Which one? Is it on an instrument track or a separate MIDI track and audio track?
Is it playing back MIDI data from a track or are you playing it via a controller in real time?

Have you checked the sound card drivers in Preferences->Audio devices?

DO you have any busses in the project at all? Can you hear audio tracks okay? Have you ever had it working?

That'll do for starters................

Unfortunately Sonar isn't something you open up and then get on with it. It takes a bit of time to set up and learn.

I'd suggest reading the manual especially Tutorial One, if you're still getting problems after that then come back with the info I've asked for above and you'll find lots of very helpful people on here. But "It's working okay but I can't hear anything, I just want you to tell me how to fix it" isn't going to get you much help I'm afraid.

There really is no reason to be so rude.

I said I have never really used Sonar, everything is set up how it should be but there is no sound.
I just want to know if it has anything to do with my speakers (like I said, they are just normal computer speakers). I'm not recording anything, I just want to listen to what I have previously recorded on another computer.
