i do this all the time.
you want your 'recorded' signal routed to a drum buss, and that routed to master,
then you can create a buss for everything else to go to, to be able to adjust the over all level of the other pre-recorded music.
if you use sub busses, it's as easy as just temporarily routing every buss except master, to a 'temp' or 'background' buss, and route that directly to the sound card....
then you have total control of the levels for the drumming monitoring in the cans,
without messing with any of the other mix elements.
re-route all the busses back to 'master' after you are done tracking.
