Hi gang,

has anyone had experience setting up a Korg Kronos usb audio connection to SONAR?

So far I get usb midi but Kronos does no appear as an audio input.

do you have the Kronos USB driver installed?

While I don't use the Kronos Audio interface myself, everytime I've ever had problems with it, it's always come down to the Korg drivers.

Look in your Device Manager to see if you see 2 Kronos devices in there (forget what they're named off the top of my head). Also, if you set the Kronos to be your primary sound card in windows, can you get regular audio (say, from a YT video) to go through it?

I have the Kronos USB Midi driver installed...since I can't find a usb audio driver I assume this is both audio and midi.

I see 2 Kronos devices in device manager

KORG KRONOS which has a Korg driver for midi
KRONOS which has a Microsoft driver for usb audio (is this the problem)?

If I right click on my speaker icon in the taskbar, select recording devices I see 'Line KRONOS' ready, then I click properties/listen to this device and I can hear it in windows.

For some reason it does no appear in SONAR, I'll try making the Kronos the default device and report back, thanks.

Ooh, looks like Kronos does not support ASIO, trying WDM

That was it, Kronos does not support ASIO, it works fine with WDM.

Not sure if I like faff of the Korg VST, think I'll go shopping for an optical to coaxial spdif and go back to ASIO =)

yes, sorry. I just saw your post on the korgforums. There is no ASIO driver for the Kronos. You can use ASIO4All but results have been mixed (I tried it, but ended up having to set the buffer really high to avoid pops/clicks). WDM is your only option for Audio, which kind of makes it pretty close to useless for anything that you would normally use an Audio interface for, since the latency makes it unusable for a lot of things.

Personally, I don't even use USB from the Kronos. I just plug the midi cables into one of my usb interfaces and I have a firewire interface. That way I don't even need the Kronos on and I don't have to mess with their drivers at all. Then again, I don't use the editor, either.

I think I'll take the same option, I'll either get an optical>coax spdif converter or use balanced out>in audio and standard midi connections.

If you're using S/PDIF you'll be fixed to a samplerate of 48KHz.

Well you could try the spdif approach.. when I did that on the Fantom I discovered that the volume knob was exclusively for the audio outs...I needed to go into a menu to adjust volume for spdif and so of course  so I reverted to the balanced outs.
