* I won't translate all that bull#*"..
Cheers.
Olivier.

Ok,ok as far as everybody asks for it,I will make an attempt to translate my super post...
( yes I have time to loose...)
Ciao tutti ( I admit things are going wrong way at start but" hello everybody" is somewhat "tacky" ( google) so I will avoid it)
Cool to see you muse around with a language I know a little bit.
For me easiest way to learn french is to have french speaking parents, but as far as nobody is perfect, then the best thing is to have ( or have had, depending on the age) a french girl or boyfriend in the teenage years..
If it is still not the case then things are getting worse ....but everything is not lost yet.
As far as it is a musicians forum, songs are a great way to discover a language. Find french songs you like( mine are top notch, sorry, sorry,it was too easy) and learn them.
Personally I learned english( american) mainly this way.
I won't translate that post.
Amicalement.

Here's a hint. Get a long list of false cognates and learn them. After that, your guesses about French words will be more reliable. Here are some examples:

"Chair" in French means "flesh" in English.
"Flèche" means "arrow."
"Actuel" means "current."

As far as pronunciation, most methods and teachers teach an artificial version of the pronunciation, which is really different from how French people really talk. If they're saying "Je ne sais pas" in four syllables, you'll have a hard time when you hear it in two syllables. (Same is true for English teaching BTW.)

That's why sites like FluentU are so helpful in learning a language. It features YouTube videos in the language you're learning, with interactive subtitles added. So you can watch things like commercials and news reports and read a translation. Biggest problem is learning in the classroom and feeling totally lost as soon as you hear a native speak. I was lucky to have spent some time in France as a kid though and picked up the general flow and pronunciation of the language, as well as many words that I never even saw the spelling of until years later.
