  • A Suggestion for the Sonar Developers

I thought there was a separate forum for offering suggestions on Sonar, so forgive me if I'm in the wrong neighborhood.

Sometimes, my 65-year-old brain forgets to turn on the interface before cranking up Sonar. Yeah, I know, have everything on a strip and turn them all on at the same time. I have that. I forget to turn on the strip. I got lots of strips powering different things. Anyway, Sonar will begin to load, and then a window pops up, saying it can't find the interface.

Here's my suggestion: put a CANCEL button on the dialog to prevent Sonar from further loading. Otherwise, I have to wait, close the program, and start over (with the interface now turned on). A minor thing, but in our gigahertz-driven environment, 20 seconds is an eternity.

Awesome program. Sure beats the old 4-track TEAC I used to use.

Good idea! Sometimes the interface just doesn't get recognized, even though it's been on for days,  and I go through the same drill...
I used to use a 4-track TEAC myself...:)Then an 8-track...then 16-track...then stack of ADATS, then ProTools...

You don't have to wait. Why not turn on the interface after SONAR loads. We support automatic device detection so you should get a popup when the interface is live and it will set up audio automatically after.

NOEL is correct. SONAR will see a new device when it is turned on. Just give it a few seconds. That's how I change my sample rate on my VS100.

I have even switched interfaces without closing Sonar. It's very polite and asks you what your plans are.
And if you have an SSD drive, and you disable auto plug in scanning Sonar loads in about 5 seconds for me.

Hmmm... I'll try that, Noel. Thanks! IIRC, I'd turn the interface on after getting the message, wait for Sonar to finish loading, and no interface. I will next time WAIT for Sonar to load and THEN turn on the box.

It might depend on the interface. When I was using a MOTU, forgetting to turn it on not only stopped SONAR in its tracks, it prevented Windows completely from seeing it without a reboot. My current Focusrite does not have that problem. I see in your sig that you are also using a Focusrite, so you may be in good shape.

And never apologize for being 65. The larger the database, the slower the access time. It's still better to have the data.

My Tascam US 20x20 sometimes would get disconected from Sonar while it was running..all of a sudden it wasn't there...Sometimes  I had to reboot the computer to get it back...maybe crappy drivers...don't know
Haven't had that trouble after a few updates though

Oh, I wasn't apologizing. I worked hard to get to 65. Trouble is, all that acid I dropped in 60's perhaps re-routed some circuits.
