  • [Solved] Why the Comps are blocked for editing?

Why the final Comp compiled from the vocal takes is blocked for editing? For example, I have created a Comp and have deleted the takes. But I would like to edit it (say, split it). For some reasons, I can not do it...

May be there is a reason, but I just do not understand it?

You can unlock it. If you right click on the clip, under the menu item "clip lock" there are options for position and data.

I've always found it a bit odd that it defaults to locked when you flatten a comp.

Thanks a lot, so easy! I just wonder - why they did not mention it in their online Help about comping?

FYI it is mentioned in "Finalizing the Comp."

Open Inspector, and under clip change from "data only" to "off". Simple as that.

While we are on the subject (and to avoid starting a new thread) I had a strange problem the other day where I unlocked the finalised comp, split it into two places, and tried to drag copy the section. On dragging it was trying to drag the whole track and not just the section I selected. Why is this?

In the end, I had to copy the final comp to a new track to edit it.

Frankly speaking, I wonder - what is the need to make such a complex structure - takes, comps, track. Why the takes can not be compiled directly to the TRACK, if it just doubles the Comp? Is there any reasons to compile multiple Comps by recording?

Yes, you could have alternate selections of phrases and finalize them, there's no other way of saving comps on a single track. This way you can easily try a few versions, all the while keeping the same track settings (compression, eq, reverb send level etc).

OK, it seems like I have got it. The Comps are designed for the case, when you have two (or more) take's pieces you can not decide right now, which one is better. So, you create the Comps to hear them in the correct "context" and make a final decision.
Correct?

Correct. You "flatten" them only when you're sure everything is as you want it.
