I have an Alesis SR-16 and I want the drum patterns I create on this device to record directly into Sonar X2. I have the '16 hooked up to a Behringer UMC204HD as follows:
 
Jack the OP clearly stated that he wants the patterns. That's what I did with my old 505. I copied all the patterns over to Sonar and still use them often to get a song rolling. I now can do the same thing with the step sequencer but when I first started with Sonar I found using my old trusty patterns was the fastest way to get the groove I needed because I knew those patterns like the back of my hand. I still refer to them by the patterns names "D1" = a standard rock beat," D11"  is a waltz. ect.

Lots of folks mistake inserts as being inputs.

It's easy to see why here, there are no inputs on the rear panel of the interface.
 
The inputs are on the front -- the two combo XLR/phone jacks.
