Is it possible to drag-drop-copy and depending on the keyboard/mouse combination decide whether it's linked or not?
Not quite, but you can come very close. Bind a keyboard shortcut to "Unlink Clips" and set the default to linking them. When you drag and drop, the linked clips will be selected. Call up the keyboard shortcut, hit enter, and the selected clips will be unlinked.
(Note: The first time you call up the keyboard shortcut, the dialog box will give you the option to link or unlink. Choose unlink; it will persist, so unlinking is just keyboard shortcut + enter. Of course you can change this if you want.)
