  • <SOLVED> Melodyne Essential 4.1 Freezing Sonar X3d

I've literally NEVER used Melodyne before, but recorded a singer today who has a couple of notes that just need a little nudge up in pitch.  I figured now's as good a time as any to learn, so I downloaded the latest version (4.1) that Celemony had sent to my email and installed it.  Watched some tutorial videos, and read the Sonar documentation relevant to Melodyne.  In Sonar X3d, I highlighted a region of the vocal track and selected "Create Region FX" from the Melodyne tab of the Region FX tab.  After a quick flashing and disappearing of the Melodyne edit screen, Sonar just does nothing.  I can minimize/maximize any synth or effect windows, but anything else I attempt to do (clicking in a track, scrolling the timeline, etc) gives me the spinning blue circle indefinitely, and I eventually have to kill Sonar in the Task Manager.  I'm sure there's dozens of different reasons this could be happening, but was wondering if running the latest version of Melodyne Essential on an older version of Sonar was an obvious culprit.  I downloaded the Sonar Platinum lifetime updates last year during the sale, but have not yet updated just due to being quite comfortable and happy with X3.  Obviously, if I need to go ahead and install Splat I will.  Just thought I'd check here and see if there was any confirmation to this idea or if there might be something else I should try.  Thanks to all!

First thing I would try if I wanted to stay on X3 is update to X3e but I m not sure why that would be preferable to Platinum.

I'm on Platinum now, but one thing to try is undocking the MultiDock, making if full screen, then minimizing it. Once you "Create Melodyne Region FX," bring up the minimized MultiDock and you should see the Melodyne Editor. Once you're done with your edits, close the Melodyne Editor. I'd recommend applying the Region FX at this point, as not doing so could lead to instability.

Just a little apprehensive of the learning curve is all, and this singer I'm recording is eager to have her song all polished up. I have a feeling I'll be spending some time tomorrow downloading Splat, and I'll report back with the status of Melodyne. Other than making sure all my projects are backed up, is there anything I should know before upgrading? Can't think of why there would be, as I believe I can just keep all the plugins I use in X3 where they are.

There are some instructions here that should help:

Think we were posting at the same time, Telecharge! I'll try this in X3 before I jump into Platinum. Thanks.

Does x3 support ARA? If not that could be the issue otherwise it could be hidden in a dock.

Doesn't seem to have anything to do with the multidock. Minimizing, undocking, etc never revealed the Melodyne editor that ever-so-briefly pops up when I create Region FX. The project I was working on just freezes but I created a new project which doesn't freeze, but doesn't show the Melodyne editor, either. Just downloaded the latest CCC, so let's see what happens when I upgrade from X3d to the latest Splat. Fingers crossed...

Bummer. Does Melodyne work by itself (standalone)?

Didn't try it. If I do, would I just import the vocal .wav file, as I wouldn't be using Melodyne as a region FX since I wouldn't be within Sonar? I'm downloading Splat now. I did try just inserting Melodyne as an audio effect on the vocal track in X3d and got a Melodyne screen, but it had nothing to indicate that it recognizes any of the notes. No blobs or anything, but it doesn't seem that's the correct way to use Melodyne within Sonar so I wasn't really expecting that to work. I really appreciate your help!
