If only I were in my teens now instead of 58.....

I suspect a fair percentage of the forum, myself included, feel the same. But then who says you need to be a teen:

Julia's Song in 2014 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bdnk-IGUFs - a track from their first album and one of my favs.

Sorry for being OT.

Hi,

Does anyone know how to get that big vocal reverb used by the 80's electro-pop euro-band, Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark? I've been trying to figure it out but am stuck so I've come to the experts here in the forums. I really like how it sounds on their song "Forever Live and Die" which seems to have reverb on top of reverb but still under control.

Thanx, Frederick

I think you can get this by using a short delay (1/16th or 1/8th note) in front of a plate reverb with a fairly long decay  (1-2 seconds).  That should give you that layered effect you're looking for.

p.s.- keep the feedback short on the delay and play with the mix percentages of both effects.

Predelay helps as well.

Anything like an EMT 140/240 Plate Reverb effect should do the trick. Some convolution plug-ins come with Plate presets. Sometimes a blend between algorithmic and convolution (hybrid) works better.
