I tried to play a friend's 5-string bass at a band rehearsal once where the bass player couldn't make it. Man that 5th string completely threw me off. If I had an 8-string guitar I'd probably be playing Martian music without trying.

I've got both short scale Gretsch Jr. Jet 4-String, and Stingray 5-String basses, and find the each have their own forte. I love the little short scale bass for playing quick bubbly stuff. It's easy to get around on and has a tone that's slightly shifted to the dark side, but still surprisingly clear. The 5-String Stingray has wide colorful tone, and dropping below low E always perks my ears up when I hear it on that bass. It's surprisingly clean with definition all the way down to playing an open B.

I'm so accustomed the low E string being the closest string to me that I kept hitting notes on the 5th string where they would normally be on the 4th string of a regular bass, and of course they'd be the wrong notes. No way I was going to adapt to that extra string in one night. That 5th string must take a lot of getting used to. I mostly just play bass on recordings anyway.

Nicely done - that was a pleasure to watch.  That Taylor sounded excellent in your hands.

Virtuoso. No edits, full take. Just wow. Hat's off to you. And the intro was superb. Loved every second.

Thanks Walt. I hope to be out again, playing all over creation by next winter. Lord knows playing live is the only way we can make any money these days. Ain't nobody buying records anymore, that's for sure.

Loved this. Just great, and that is some serious playing. I do a lot of choral conducting, and performance work on piano, so I know good performance chops when I hear it. And I'm hearin' it.

Nice of you to say Amicus. You're a terrific composer, and your opinion is important to me.

That was really great.  My mom used to play that tune on piano when i was a kid.  It never occurred to me that it could be done on guitar.  Well played!
