Wayfarer
I tried to play a friend's 5-string bass at a band rehearsal once where the bass player couldn't make it. Man that 5th string completely threw me off. If I had an 8-string guitar I'd probably be playing Martian music without trying.
I've got both short scale Gretsch Jr. Jet 4-String, and Stingray 5-String basses, and find the each have their own forte. I love the little short scale bass for playing quick bubbly stuff. It's easy to get around on and has a tone that's slightly shifted to the dark side, but still surprisingly clear. The 5-String Stingray has wide colorful tone, and dropping below low E always perks my ears up when I hear it on that bass. It's surprisingly clean with definition all the way down to playing an open B.
