  • Changing Tempo of Entire Song with 2018.09

Well, I'm impressed...I changed a 92 BPM song to 75 BPM and also to 120 BPM and was shocked at the sound quality, even when slowing down. 
 
Short form: I bounced all the tracks to themselves (I know you may not need to do that with 2018.09, but I did it to be safe - there was one track with multiple lanes where AudioSnap didn't "stick" until I did this)). I also made sure all tracks ended at the same time, and on a measure boundary.
 
Next step was opening up the AudioSnap palette for each track, telling it to get the Average Tempo from the project, and then clicking on "Clip Follows Project." This basically tells the clip to follow future tempo changes.
 
Finally, I opened up the Tempo View and changed the tempo...amazing. Good job, Noel & Co.!

Here's something else that works:
 
1. Slip-edit (and snap) the end of all clips to a specific measure boundary (e.g., measure 65).
2. Change the tempo.
3. Split-stretch each clip to the new measure 65.

I just tried the same thing without bouncing the clips to themselves, or slip-editing to a specific measure. It mostly worked, but I had muted clips, clips with FX, and similarly complex situations. In the case of a vocal, the stretching got totally confused. For simple tracks, it seems it's not necessary to bounce first, but it also seems that bouncing first guarantees much more consistent results. If you do bounce, it also seems that the clip doesn't have to start at the beginning, or slip-edit to any particular measure. I'm still scoping things out, but overall, this is a very promising beginning to having elastique in the program.

Time-stretching algorithms are optimized for different applications. Speech is very different from program material. You'll get better results with a solo vocal if you use the existing Radius Solo Vocal algorithm. (In preferences, this is the default offline algorithm for VocalSync.)
 
When I took your original example and stretched it using the Radius algorithm, the quality sounded better to my ears...give it a try.

Great news. I wonder if we're about to see a pitch change feature that works as well? Right now I have to use 32 bit Splat to do it well.

Ah, yes, Radius Vocal Solo does sound a fair bit better. Thanks.
