• SONAR
  • "General Error" dialog box after saving!

I have been getting "General Error" (very helpful) a lot lately when saving and it's making me very nervous.
I have got used to saving my work a lot after Melodyne was causing crashes so I have stopped using it.

However, I still save quite regularly but when this happens I effectively lose everything from the previous time I saved my work.
I then have to exit without saving, reload Sonar and then reload the last save and redo the lost work.

Is anyone else seeing this?
I am on the second update of SONAR 2016.9.

Thanks
ZT

Hi. Maybe try to install the latest early access release?

If that does not work, come back and let us know what your project consists of (Audio, Vst, plugins etc.).
All the best.

I used to get this now and again, but as far as I can tell, it did not have any adverse effect on any of my projects.

I think it's safe to ignore it.

I have seen this. My work around is to press 'play' for the project.
After a few seconds of audio I stop and then save without seeing the 'general error' message.
I suspicion playing the project resets something....but have no clue what.

Thanks klos, I will give that a try when it happens.

Bristol, yes safe to ignore but I am still losing work (unless klos's workaround does the trick).

Zarqq, I will try the latest update and come back here if it's no better. I was using quite a few plugins so maybe related to one of them.

Thanks for the help,

I get this now and then. I have found that if you wait for a while (say 5-10 minutes), it'll let you save without the error.

I run into this quite frequently too. I agree with the "hitting play" thing mentioned above. It does seem to work. Also, make sure you just let things settle a minute or so before saving. Like if you do any major editing or bouncing, etc. Sometimes I catch myself hitting save right after I make some sort of adjustment. I think Sonar is still processing the edit or whatever, and it can't handle saving at the same time.

I've also noticed I have this problem while closing a project. But if I wait a minute or two before closing (and hit play/stop), it seems to close ok. Fortunately when this happens during closing, I don't lose any work because I've saved prior.

I've also learned to let my computer sit for a couple minutes after booting before opening a project. Turn it on, go grab a beer or something, then come back 10 minutes later when the computer is fully booted and ready to go. Starting early always caused me problems.

Thanks for your help guys, hitting play seems to be the answer!

I get it very rarely, but have yet to figure out what causes it. It used to freak me out ("Oh no!! A General Error!!) until I found that hitting Play de-fanged it.

I have seen this occasionally of late as well. Apart from making me a little nervous it doesn't seem to affect the project though - I just resave.
