Have any of you looked at a commercial mix (as I have numerous times) on a frequency meter such as Ozone?  If you look and listen at the mid and side channels, there's a LOT more info in the sides than is "supposed" to be there.  Bass...kick drum... a lot more low end than I would've guessed.
 
Any ideas on how to duplicate this?  Is it done in mastering?  Is it doubled tracks or chorusing?  I really shouldn't hear kick drum or bass guitar in the sides (I thought)...but tell that to these two mixes below...new pop hits currently on the charts.

There are 2 plugins that I use which allow me perform Mid Side Processing, Waves Scheps 73 and Waves Center.      
Please see the video below on how this works in the mix.
