Hi all,

I'm noticing that when opening Sonar recently it's taking forever. Have recently updated to Windows 10 but just can't find anything causing the problem. Seems to be a big hang as the Sonar start screen appears, can see the images of the projects then the names take a good few seconds to load. Then get a second bigger hanging point when the project is actually opened.

Has anyone else had this problem or have any tips on curing?

I must admit that I, too, am experiencing slow loading projects. Even projects with just a couple of tracks. Taking about twenty to thirty seconds to open, which isn't that long, really, but seems to be a long time when you are used to them opening "almost" straight away.

No tips from me other than look away from the screen... As the saying goes, "a watched pot never boils."

cheers

Yeah I'm with you there, the load times are around the minute mark for me.

No difference with the network on or off, just disabling indexing on the HDD's now to see if I can get it back to how it was when running on Win7.

I have not seen a problem with Sonar opening any slower but plugins that use lots of samples like Kontakt can take a while to load. So I would look at the plugins you have in the project to see if they are the reason.

Thanks for the feedback Karhide, this issue seems to be there when opening a project with a single plug in loaded, definitely not that but thanks.

I have SSD system and data drives so perhaps that's why my projects are opening a little bit quicker.

To be honest, I really need to do a bit more research on exactly what is happening my end. I am probably not helping matters by sometimes using my OCTA-CAPTURE and then switching to my QUAD-CAPTURE when I am not in my studio.

Not using any sample libraries as such. I do have Iris 2 loaded in one project that is slow to open but I only have small local samples loaded... So many things to consider I guess...

Have you checked to see if auto-rescans have been enabled? Go to Preferences -> VST Settings -> Scan Options. Un-check both options there.

But that would only account for the initial delay when starting up SONAR. Delays while loading a project are rarely due to anything SONAR has control over, more often external issues such as virus scanners or a failing disk drive. Try opening Task Manager and observing CPU usage while loading a project. It's OK if SONAR uses 100% of the CPU, but if it's only using 10% then something else in your system is slowing it down.

I have Sonar Professional, W10. Projects open in about 3-4 seconds.

Kill Windows Defender, it slows SONAR on my machine until I shut it off.

I shall now check with Windows defender off as well, just to update on the issue when I opened Sonar and monitored the CPU in task manager it only got to around 7% usage. What I did notice though was that the Sonar start screen appeared around 3 or 4 times in the process list, has everyone else got that many on launch? The command center also opened but has now gone.
