Is the new Overloud Tapedesk plugin the same as emulators for the Pro Channel?

"Tolerance" button and the tape controls seem similar.
It makes me wonder if Overloud had something to do with these useful additions to the ProChannel.

If so, it would support my contention that SONAR's Console Emulators incorporate transformer emulation.

Overloud wrote both PC modules. Maybe someday Overloud with allow CW to sell the new plug-in as an upgrade to the PC modules. Given the overlap in function, the upgrade would have to be pretty inexpensive.

Yep. What we don't know is if they've upped the ante in terms of code under the hood, or just packaged the code they wrote for the PC modules in a new plugin. Either way, I'm likely to keep using the ones I have until I have some reason to believe the new one is way, way better and I need that betterness. Still, I hope it sells well for them!

I've tried a bunch of console plugins. I find them all to be pretty subtle, with the exception of the Waves TG12345. After all my testing I've returned to my old habit of using my trusty 3440 tape recorder and matching 8x4 mixer. I get the harmonic distortion, tape saturation and all the other good stuff. I send the final mix to tape and then record it back into Sonar. My little rig is in mint condition but I doubt I could get more than $300 for it and have never been tempted to trash it. Best console emulator money can buy IMO.

Thought so, I like the PC ones.

Thanks for the responses.

I find it very ironic that I spent 35 years trying to overcome the limitations of tape and tubes and finally felt like I had reached Valhalla when I got my first digital recorder.  Now I'm spending money trying to replicate the sound of tape and tubes.

No tape emulator can touch my old TSR-8 for vibe.  Wish I'd never sold it.  I do like the Tg12345 from waves and almost always use the Slate VCC-2.  I have used the pro-channel ones on occasion and have been meaning to shoot them out side by side just to see if I can pick a "winner".

Is there any type of source material where the effects of the ProChannel console emulations are obvious? I think I hear a little something using the Trident "A" emulation, but I really can't tell the difference with the other two.

It could be my monitoring or not knowing what to listen for.
