Is the new Overloud Tapedesk plugin the same as emulators for the Pro Channel?

"Tolerance" button and the tape controls seem similar.
It makes me wonder if Overloud had something to do with these useful additions to the ProChannel.

i have just fired off an email to overloud basically asking this question, will see if i get a reply. just downloaded the demo and about to install and give tapedesk a whirl. from some comments in the deals forum below, it appears it may not be just the same pc modules bundled up in a new package.

i don't think much of the console emulators and tape emulations in platinum myself, would much rather use waves nls and various tape emulations among others, although i mostly use studio ones mix engine fx ctc-1 pro which is pretty awesome, it's not a normal plugin as such, as i understand it it, mix engine fx/ctc-1 pro operates deep inside the audio/summing engine of studio one, and not just sitting on top like normal plugs. 3 different console choices, all with drive, noise, crosstalk etc, and really does sound good.

Im scratching my head when people saying they use their old "consumer" tape machines, as my opinion is they offered miniscule amounts of analog qualities as the Studer/Ampex/MCI,etc big brothers did. I have to chuckle when people mention casette decks. But there will always be those diehards.

got a response from overloud, it seems the console emulator is a tweaked version of what is already included in sonar, but the tape emulation is completely new, plus it seems that more consoles etc will be added in the future. here is the response

Hello Jeff,
the console emulation into the Tapedesk is based on the Console Emulator into SONAR with some improvements on sound processing: the tape machine emulation is newly developed. If you are happy with the current components into Sonar there is no need for you to get the TAPEDESK as well. However it may become interesting for you in the future when we will add new console and tape models.

Kind Regards,
Thomas - Overloud Support

to me it sounds much better overall than what is included in sonar, much better to work with, and with the promise of more consoles etc to be added in the future I think I will pull the trigger. cpu hit is delightfully light

I'm plugging this idea again, to have "proper" VU-meters in the console emulation in ProChannel :)

after playing with it a while tapedesk is a seriously nice piece of gear, for me it is far and away above the included console and tape emulations included in sonar. very nice, no buyers remorse with this
