  • Sonar won't work as Sample editor for Ableton Live

In Ableton Live, it is possible to define an external sample editor.

Then when one selects an audio clip and click on Show/Hide sample box, there is a button 'Edit' to edit the sample in the external application.
I know for a fact that it works with Pro Tools.

Unfortunately, I can't make it work with Sonar (Platinum fully patched latest lifetime version).
When I click on Edit, Sonar opens with the Window:

Could not open file. The file may be damaged or incompatible with this version of SONAR.
You may attempt to recover this file in 'safe' mode by holding down the SHIFT shift key while opening it.
I tried with samples in WAV and AIF, with no success.

Has anybody ever succeeded in making Sonar the samples editor of Ableton live ?
If not, I will suggest making it work in Cakewalk's The Bakery.

SONAR is not an audio editor. It expects project or MIDI file names on the command line.

I think a program like Sound Forge or Wavelab would be ideal for what the OP wants to do.

Or the free Wavosaur. There are a lot of audio editor options, SONAR is not one of them.
