So, Im using sonar platinum and my main interface is a roland studio capture, which I use as the sound card.

When I enable the metronome....  all is well.  It will work during recording and playback without a hitch.

However...if I open up the metronome options and change anything at all, and I mean anything.....  it suddenly never works again and I have to start and reload.

By changes, for example it defaults to something like ping hi and ping low for the sound(audio metronome).

if I were to just simply change that to say a wood block or side stick...it doesnt work anymore.  Changing it back to default doesnt work anymore either.  Or if I touch the volume(its by default set to -3 and -3.5).  If I turn that up for example it kills the metronome and it doesnt work anymore at all during playback or recording(despite the boxes being checked).

I have to close and reopen sonar and the only way I can use the metronome is if I leave all the default settings alone and set tempo as Im creating the new project.  Anyone else experience this?

I haven't seen your problem, but I have a theory...

The metronome sample files in SONAR end up copied to a bunch of different places, but are only really referenced from...
C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum\Metronome

The directories in...
...\SonarData\SONAR Platinum\Metronome
C:\Users\All Users\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum\Metronome
...are all herrings.

Uh...never mind that theory.  When the AppData\Roaming metro directory isn't there, there will be no sample names listed in the Use Audio Metronome box.

Anyway...make sure that directory is there.  I haven't helped you at all yet.

you might be onto something actually.

I have sonar installed on an SSD drive.  However....  my bundles etc I save on an entirely seperate hard drive.  Just a storage drive to hold all the audio and the bundles/CWP files.

I almost wonder if loading the bundle from what is essentially my storage drive (D drive) somehow causes a disconnect to have it look across to the C drive for metronome samples or something to that effect.

A left field idea, but when the metronome stops working try cycling the global FX bypass in the control bar's mix menu on and off. There was an issue with the metronome not working upon loading projects that this solves. It may or may not be related but certainly worth 2 seconds to try.

+1 It's the first thing to do with any metronome issue.

I dont know why it is happening - but you could try to turn off and back on the global effects via the fx icon in the control bar

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  I will give this a try today and see if I have any luck!

FYI disregard the link below(if it shows).  I'm simply testing to see if I can post links yet(was having issues due to being new and there being a 3 day restriction on posting outgoing links.  Wanted to see if I can link anything yet before starting an entirely different thread that doesnt work lol

Having FX Bypass enabled while changing metronome preferences is the root cause of this problem. That's why toggling FX Bypass fixes it. Or you can disable FX Bypass before making the change.

I am not sure how FX Bypass was toggled, but this was why the metronome stopped sounding on my playback and recording. This thread and solution fixed it for me. Thx! Now to see how I could have toggled FX Bypass accidentally

Hotkey 'E' toggles FX Bypass. It's right next to R for record, so that could easily happen.
