I've been around since Cakewalk Pro Audio 5 (and the old newsgroups), and after using S8 forever - finally made a jump to a new machine and Platinum.  Any users that have tips (for zooming, hiding tracks easily, comping workflow), I appreciate them.  I've watched most of the videos available, and have been brute-forcing it for about 4 days now.  Miss my old ways, but looking forward to learning the new.
 
By the way, Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS was killing my wonderful new laptop.  It is the Devil.  Disable the Devil.  Ha!

Oh, David, when you get a chance, it's well worth putting your set-up specs in your signature... Save having to type it out each time

To hide tracks, while in track view, press "h", then deselect tracks you wish to hide.

Quick zoom.  In Piano Roll View or track view, move your mouse pointer to the timeline until it becomes a magnifying glass icon.  Then hold the left mouse down while dragging the mouse in a vertical motion to zoom in and out.

Comping workflow. I will leave that one for those who actually use it.....

To zoom, Ctrl + arrow (right / left vertically and up / down horizontally).
Track Manager is "H". You can show and hide tracks there.

I had some problems with my wonderful new laptop recently - may I ask how you go about disabling Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS?

One of the great things about Sonar Platinum is it has a descriptions box. Once you select it, hovering the mouse over and major function will tell you a bit about it....of course there's the manual too.

Simon, if you enter the BIOS (F2 on splash screen for me), you just have to poke around in there to find "Intel SpeedStep".  In my case, turning it off helped the CPU not throttle down and cause pops and clicks.  If you are not comfortable navigating the BIOS, be careful.  It's easy to make bad mistakes in there...
 
The complete solution to my latency problems was to always do a fresh boot (no sleep mode), have those power settings set to "never", and be plugged in on AC not just the battery.  I can't tell you how ACPI.sys wants to take over my system.  These were the only steps that eliminate that problem for me.  Not a huge deal, but one that almost makes me wish I had switched to a MacBook Pro...

I'm going to hold the BIOS option in reserve - things seems reasonably stable at the moment.  Haven't come across the sleep mode thing before - I use that a lot so I appreciate you getting back to me!
