For those that do not want Win 10, there is a utility program, "GWX Control Panel", to disable the update (so it claims).
My operation OS is Win 10 and I have no problem with that.  However, I have a dual boot with Win 7 as I need that for an RS232C interface that will not work with Win 8 or Win 10.  I've installed the utility on my Win 7 system, however it was just yesterday so I'll have to see.

For those that want to try it (I don't guarantee anything other than I saw a reference to it on a site and I've downloaded and installed it on my Win 7).

I've had it installed for a while.  A few days ago I did another round of Windows Update.  I'm glad I double-checked, because there were 3 updates related to WinX that I had to uncheck and hide.

I upgraded to Windows 10 on my laptop and it went away. I've have few problems, none that weren't easily fixed. It isn't anywhere near as bad as getting and setting up a new phone.
