Hi, I was looking for a X-Touch, but read about color strip limitation.
Someone has done a good work and produces a pdf document on Xctl protocol.
First, the Xctl is possible between an XR console and the X-Touch over MIDI connection.
It uses SysEx messages, but I do not see a complete SysEx message and the manufacter part seems to be missing...
Second, a periodic message is needed to keep the link.
Third, the Xctl+MC(firmware 1.15) protocol authorize dual connection, XR console on one side with MIDI cable and Xctl, DAW on the other side on USB cable with MC protocol. But I don't know the behavior on switching from one to one.
Maybe It is possible to fake an XR console on MIDI port from the surface control DLL, and implement strips colors.
Sources of Mackie Control from Cakewalk are availables ;-)
What happens if a blank text is sent with color on Xctl then the MC text message ? Do strips keep their color ?
If not, the MC display message has to be changed with the Xctl version.

On SONAR side, the interface IHostStripInfo seems to contains color information.

I missed the sales period for an X-Touch, I have to wait until the next ones to try. Maybe someone will find a workaround...

I have checked and it seems like X3 indicate colors correctly. I will check Platinum later, but I guess it should work there as well.

So the next phase is to check under which conditions X-Touch recognize it. I will prepare AZ Controller test preset for such check next days and will put the link here.

Just if you missed it, I suggest you the great document "Xctl protocol for X-Touch V1.0.pdf" from someone that test the X-Touch with the XR16 over DIN5 MIDI port.

I'm really interrested by your investigations

I would like to thanks you for the time you pass on this strip color feature.

I tested the X-Touch with the XR16 Behringer.
True, it's very useful to have some colors in the tracks.
Have you got some news about your tests please?

Ups... I forgot about it... I was in progress with 2 accessibility projects, one is finished now so probably I can find time for the test.
Sorry for the delay and thank you for reminding (feel free to "ping" me again in PM if I do not came with something next week).

Everyone is welcome to test. But at this stage only someone who knows how to switch modes of XTouch and has an audio interface with MIDI (to connect XTouch without USB) can help to move on.

Hi

Switch off the X-Touch.
Select the track 1 and press on Select and maintain your finger puch on.
Switch on the X-touch.
Release the Select key on track 1 when displaying appears again.

With the button on top, select the different modes and different connection (USB, ETH, Midi DIN),
Before, try to update the firmware for the X-Touch. 1.15 if i remember well.

A good Tuto from Behringer explains how can we do on youtube.

Let me know if you need anything.
