the world needs another loop builder like I need herpes

Double post for some reason...

That can be an early symptom of herpes.

...Creativity is all about immediacy and being able to capture or access musical ideas without getting bogged down...

A staggering number of "musicians" on this planet use staff notation for this purpose.

A staggering number of people drag and drop loops all day long and think they are "musicians."

For the typical guitar playing song writer, what is really needed is an App that incorporates the ability to capture the base guitar track, as a scratch track, that you can move to Sonar.  From there, obviously you will use it as a guide track to record from a better source.

I am no a guitar playing song-writer, but what you describe makes good sense.  Anything that will fit into your natural  workflow and get a better result faster is worth something.

But I am trying to envision how such a thing would actually save time.  When I have ideas, I just sing them into a note-taking app on my phone.  If they still sound worthwhile in a few days, then I will develop it further.  But I can't see any way those recordings would do me any good moved into a DAW.  Now if the "data collection app" had a metronome, and maybe some ability to play basic grooves, then the recording could be a useful guide track.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.  There are many different approaches to writing songs. So the world might welcome many different apps into this space.

If you pause the video at 0:27, you can see it is multitrack app. 0-0.27, on top, you see "mix view", metronome (not shown), effects section (shown, with a kind of EQ,Comp,Reverb.). So I guess that is a bit more that a "data collection app" or even "audio collection app".

Like who? Have you actually met someone who makes music by merely dragging and dropping loops? I hear a lot of people claim this and yet I've never met a single one!

There are all sorts of people in my area doing hiphop grooves this way. They aren't too likely to get rich and famous this way, but they are trying to sell their stuff.

If people didn't do this, then why did all the DAW vendors built this feature.?

If you have ever tried moving an idea you captured in your IOS environment to a PC or mac or even another device you might be aware of how horribly slow and convoluted that experience is :)

Actually, moving project between an iOS device and a Mac has not been an issue for quite some time, thanks to GarageBand. ;)

There's also apps like Music Memos which offer the same level of integration with GB and Logic.
https://www.apple.com/music-memos/

And thanks to AirDrop, you can easily drop files from one device to another without the need for physical connexion or online storage.

Incidentally, my phone is an Android and I use Bluetooth to drag and drop files to and from it on my Mac all the time, so I'm not exactly sure where the difficulty lies - unless it's essentially a Windows-related limitation.

That being said, I'm curious to learn more about Momentum - in spite of the hipster teaser. ;)

I would have thought it is less about the act of moving WAV files from one platform to another and more about having the file actually be useful when it arrives on the DAW.  I guess we will find out soon enough.
