  • Copying note events to a different note

I have multiple note events on say, C4 and I want to not just move them, but duplicate them, to C3.

AFAICS I can duplicate them in time, or move them to the other note, but not duplicate them on another note.

I want this for a percussive track, for instance where a rapid fire snare crescendo is duplicated on a set of toms. But it could be used equally on melodic events.

Is there a way to do that? Sorry if it's a thick question.

Thanks for any help.

I think midi transform could be the answer you're looking for.  You can enter a starting note number and stopping note number (use the same for both), then copy that to a another track and then use the transpose function to move it up or down the scale.

(at least I think that's right)

If I understand correctly, you want the notes duplicated on the same track.  If my understanding is correct then:

1.  Left Click the key in the Keyboard pane in the Piano Roll View that matches the pitch you want to duplicate.  This will select all notes of that pitch (i.e. C4)

2.  While holding down the Ctrl key and the Shift key, use the mouse to drag the selected notes to the new pitch (i.e. C3).  The Ctrl modifier allows copying notes and the Shift key makes sure that the notes only move in the direction that you start dragging.

You should now have a duplicate row of notes on C3 and C4.

Hope this helps,

The other reply by SquireBum is the correct one, but thanks for the explain. I always found MIDI tyransform to be a complex way to get things done, so I save it for complex actions.

Magic, SquireBum! I had even forgotten about the Shift stopping the notes from....shifting!
