I can't seem to figure out how to save my projects' layouts. I have some projects that are coming up with the Browser pane and the MixStrip opened, even after I minimize those and save or save as the project with my preferred layout. Any ideas? Thanks!

 
You should always start your post with what version of sonar you are running (or fill out your signature).
Some settings/features are not included in all versions.
 
Try creating your preferred layout then save it as a screenset and lock it.

Yes, sorry. Just running Home Studio over here. Would screenset be under "Save As"? I don't see it there. 
 
The strange thing is some projects come up with the proper layout and some don't. I get the feeling it has to do with the way the project was started maybe? Like once you start a new project, you're forever locked into that layout.

Maybe "templates" is the thing...

I don't understand why the simplest expectations like saving the layout of your project, or shift-clicking notes in PRV should be non-existant in this application. I guess I'll go on resizing and minimizing panes whenever I load up one of these "rogue" projects, and selecting MIDI notes one at a time to transpose them.

if screenset are included in Home studio you should try setting everything how you want it... then save it as a screenset. then lock that screenset. that should solve the problem.

Well I guess that's part of my problem. There's no screenset menu in Home Studio's Control Bar.
 
This doesn't explain why some of my projects load with the proper layout and some don't. It feels like it has something to do with how the project was started. From now on I'm going to start with an existing project with the desired layout, delete all the tracks, save it as a new project and start work on it.
 
I would expect that just saving the project would include the current window layout, but apparently "the bakers" thought otherwise.

Have you tried doing that but saving as a template file? Then you can start new projects using that template. Hopefully that would give you the same layout every time.

Also, doesn't Home Studio have lenses? These are like global layouts.

Saving as a template didn't work, either.
 
It all seemed promising. I arranged the layout, saved as a template, then started a new project from template. Got a dialog asking me to name the project, set the tempo, etc. And boom, same old unwanted layout popped up. Browser pane: don't want it. Console pane: don't want it. Full Mix Strip: don't want it. I guess the template is there to save things other than the screen layout.
 
Just going to live with this hamstrung version called Home Studio, I suppose, or upgrade someday.
 
Software vendors should hold back major features in lower-cost versions, not fully-expected basic operational features. That just frustrates people.

You should be able to remove screen objects by creating a custom lens. Lenses are global and affect all projects. I have not seen SONAR Home Studio so, cannot share any first hand experience with the product.
