ASIO4All has a pretty bad rep, but it seems to have been improved in recent times to the extent that I really don't see a lot of difference between using it and using the WASAPI drivers on my laptop. I could of course be completely wrong.

Here's the reason Asio4all is better than WASAPI. In a loop back test Asio4all will be in sync. All other modes are laying your overdubs down late. This screen shot shows a loopback of a drum hit re recorded to a new audio track in all the different modes available to a realtech on board sound chip.

Hopefully you realize that this statement....

Of note is I tried to use asio4all with the Scarlett 6i6 and it only gave me 2 inputs , channel 3/4 and the SPDIF and the MIDI where all missing. So it certainly sucks as a driver replacement for a real audio interface

....completely contradicts this statement....
I think there where issues in the past but somehow I think asio4all is now improved and we need to re look at it in a different way.

Brand spanking new audio interfaces can be had for under $100 these days. Better quality used units can be had for about the same price. In my humble opinion, there is absolutely no good reason for using the smoking pile of garbage that is asio4all.

nah, asio4all is really useful for onboard soundchips (like realtek) but you have to actually engage your brain and configure it correctly, not everyone has $100 to blow, and it makes field recording lighter weight

We spend $400 on the software but yet we cant "blow" $100 on the most important part of our system (Soundcard) ?

I hate sound elitist but if you want to record audio and you absolutely can't scrape together $100 to spend on audio hardware, then you probably shouldn't be messing with any kind DAW software.

I guess I must have been taught a different 'traditional' meaning of the word than you were then. What I got from what what was said is hey you know that software everyone thinks sucks because it doesn't work right? Well its better now so it doesn't suck. But oh yeah by the way, it doesn't work right.
