I am trying to open bundle files and it is taking an extrodinarily long time on some of them. When this happens I usually have to shut down Sonar in the task manager. Any ideas?

Sometimes I get this when it takes a long time for the wave forms to draw so if you haven't already try cleaning out your pic cache folder. Also do have anti virus on your machine? If so turn it off. If I leave mine on it causes any projects with samples to load painfully slow at first.

Where would I find the pic cache folder? I believe the anti-virus is turned off but will double check. I am in the process of trying to transfer all of my projects to a new PC.

The "Picture Folder" path is defined in SONAR Preferences > File > Audio Data

Thanks for the info. I tried both suggestions and am still having problems with some of the files. It seems that some will open within seconds and others I have let go for over an hour and they still won't open. I have tried both bundle files and project files with the same results. I have resorted to just copying all the audio files to the new PC and "rebuilding" the project files. Hopefully I will only need to do this on a handful of the projects.

I'm not clear on your Issue.
You say both bundle ,CWB and Normal, CWP  stall n opening on the new computer?

Do you still have your old computer and everything is fine?

I transfer between computers a lot and have never had a problem. I don't use bundle I always store everything as a Normal or CWP file.
I use folders for each project and in that folder is the audio file etc. Per project folders is what you need.

You then just copy , drag drop, the folders to an external drive where you leave them as back ups, then copy, rag drop those to the new machine. If your running the same versions of Sonar, same plug ins and vsts installed,  on both machines there should not be an issue. If there is then something is not right with your new computer install of Sonar.

If you still have the old computer then "save as" all your projects as CWP files into folders and check the Copy Audio with project box.

That's exactly what I do also. The problem may be the vsts you mentioned. The old PC has a few vsts that are not on the new PC and I have added about 100 to the new pc that are not on the old.

I'll check the projects on the old PC for plug-ins and remove them before I save the files and try to open in the new PC.

Normally that shouldn't stop a CWB or CWP from opening.  You'd just get the warning that "ancientVST is not installed" or something similar.  Then it would open without the old VST.

My suspicion is that a CWB taking an hour and still not opening would imply a corrupted file.  This is a big reason most of us now use CWPs with Per-Project-Folders.  But don't take my word for it, keep trying.

If they still open on the old PC, open the CWB and save it as a CWP with Per Project Folders.  Then transfer the CWP folders to the new PC.  That should avoid the 'corrupted file' worry.

Cakewalk bundles.
Everyone on EsperNet remembers BUN fun.

And yeah if thats taking an hour to open, you got yourself a problem.  Its safer to zip up your project folder and make backups every once in a while.  One big file that can go bad is H E double toothpick for a good project.

I have python scripts.  flexget is useful this way.  No worries and on-cloud backups every week in timestamped zip files.  A finished project goes into the completed folder, getting folded nicerly into a different set of "completed project" zips.

I think I've solved my problem. Really dumb reason. I had to change the permissions of the files for the users on the new PC. I've only tried two of the files but they both opened in a matter of seconds and neither would open at all before.

Thanks for all the replies.
