  • Major Saved File Issue With X3 Producer

Hello,

I purchased my copy of Sonar X3 Producer awhile ago and used it on my laptop with no issue. I recently upgraded to a desktop and installed it on my desktop. I used the original CDs I purchased, registered it, opened with no problem. Everything seemed fine.

However, the issue comes in to play whenever I open a saved file. Whenever I open a saved file (can be freshly created, file saved, close Sonar, reopen program then open save file) the file initially looks fine. When I hit play it will play extremely fast, a minute may only take 3 seconds to go through then the audio engine will dropout. I cannot use my midi keyboard to play sounds. It essentially renders the file useless. If I go to add a new VST in Kontakt, for example, Sonar will stop responding. I look at the file settings and nothing seems wrong.

If I open the saved file on my old laptop, it works just fine. So the issue is clearly localized to the program on my desktop and the files themselves are not being corrupted when saved.

When I create a new file everything works fine. It is only when I open a saved file that the issue happens. I can't use Sonar for any projects until this issue is resolved. I'll be happy to provide any screen grabs or information needed.

General Info:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @3.40GHz
Ram: 32 GB
System: 64-bit Operating System
Windows 10

Thank you to anybody willing to help me out.

That syndrome doesn't sound familiar. However, before going much further, did you install the final update to X3 (X3e, if I recall)? And post the audio & midi interfaces you use.

The "speed ratio" 3 sec/1 minute doesn't match to a sample rate mismatch, but I guess it should be double checked, anyway. So, check that selected sample rates are the same in sound card and SONAR. It seems you don't have a dedicated, independent audio interface (=sound card)?? For fluent DAW work it's practically a must-have, I'd say.

I made a video demonstrating the issue. You can find it at the below link:

It demonstrates the issue. I do not use an audio or midi interface, simply a midi keyboard hooked in through USB. It's fairly basic what I do with Sonar, I am primarily a classical composer using Finale most of the time. I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to DAWs. I don't believe I have an indpenedant audio interface, but, I never had this issue with my laptop.

Thank you all very much for taking time to help me out.

This is now my 5th post, so the link should now work.

I don't think I've ever heard of that kind of a problem - especially knowing the projects run fine on your old lap top.
I have no real suggestions, somewhy my main suspects are in the installation/update-direction. Have you tried different drivers? What driver mode are you using now?

Just watched the video and I've not seen that before.

What version of Kontakt do you have currently installed and what are your audio settings?

Could you also share the project?

It does seem like an issue with the machine.

If your not using an audio interface then I recommend installing ASIO4All. Your issue might be you desktop uses a different sound card than your laptop and it's got real bad audio drivers.
At least try WASAPI exclusive for now, but I found ASIO4All works the best with on board sound cards.

But you issues is a weird one and I'd certainly re install Sonar using the version from your products page if you can.

Yes, installing the ASIO4All Completely fixed the issue. When Sonar opens up that kicks in and there is no longer any issue with loading a file. I did also reinstall Sonar just to see if that would fix it but it did not.

Thank you very much for the help!!!!
