  • Soft Synth Routed to the Wrong Track?

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.  I've found this forum to be invaluable and really appreciate folks taking time to help out other users.
I started a new project in Sonar X1.  When I open a new project, I see track 1 is set to Audio and track 2 is set to MIDI.  I inserted a soft synth as the third track and a drum kit as the fourth track (the ones that come standard with the software).  When I press a key on my MIDI keyboard, I don't hear any sound and for some reason the track meter for track 2 (MIDI) lights up, but the track meter for the soft synth in the third track doesn't move.
So, can I assume that I didn't route my soft synth properly?
Thanks for your time,
Dan

When inserting the synth, if you choose Simple Instrument Track (first checkbox in the Insert Synth dialog), SONAR will create a combined MIDI/Audio track and take care of the routing of MIDI to the synth and audio output from the synth to the Master bus.

All you have to do then is make sure your keyboard is chosen as the Input for the track, and the Input Echo button is enabled to echo MIDI input to the synth. If Always Echo Current MIDI Track is enabled in MIDI preferences, that will happen automatically when the Instrument track has focus, or you can click the button - looks like ))) - to force it on.

Thank you, Brundlefly!  I needed to select the Simple Instrument Track.

You have just solved a week and a half of frustration.

Thanks again!
