  • SONAR Home Studio - Can't Get Out of DEMO MODE

I bought SONAR Home Studio through Steam.

According to documentation, it should have shown me a Registration Dialog box when it started.... I never saw it.

Tried to run SteamReg.exe from the same directory, it appears to do nothing but exits without any message.
I've read through the , which had no useful tips, since I was already doing everything it was talking about (I am already allowing it to run in Admin mode, so is Steam).

SO I came here, created an account and added the SONAR HS key from Steam to this account, but it still comes up as "Demo Mode".

Then I sent a Support Request, no replies (this was now a month ago, still no reply).

What else can I do to use this software?

I see a post over at http://steamcommunity.com/app/543510/discussions/2/ about a similar issue. If that is you, then you posted in the spot most likely to get an appropriate reply. There is a Cakewalk resource that covers that discussion group, although I am not sure about weekends. Very few here us SONAR on Steam and the activity here is mostly user to user. While the products are similar and when it comes to "How to" questions this forum can help, getting out of demo mode is a Cakewalk support issue.

Make absolutely certain you "Right click and choose= Run as Administrator"
Sometimes people confuse this thinking they are the administrator because its their PC or something.
Run as Administrator this way as many times as needed to unlock Sonar HS.

did you have a previous version of Sonar or a demo version previously installed ?

I ran Steam in User Mode and gave Admin rights only when it asked for its "Service" to run with elevated privileges.
That's why I assumed it WAS running with all the access rights it needed.

That was the problem.

Running Steam in Admin mode and then running SONAR HS from it then showed the Registration dialog box properly.

I guess I don't understand Steam??? You can buy HS from Cake for the same price?? what is Steam and why would anyone buy from them? I love all the reviews,, Most say it crashes all the time??? Good Lord, I run Home Studio on a Laptop with 6 GB of RAM and a sllllloooow processor , my Wi Fi is on and I was ripping DVD's in the background and it never crashes or drops out. HS has got to be the stablest version of Sonar at this point in time. That's why I bought it even though I have Plat.

STEAM is a software distribution platform.  It was originally developed for games and still primarily distributes games.  The benefits are that everything is downloaded and you can easily switch software between computers.  Also, patches and updates can be set up to download and install automatically.  For games that is seldom an issue, although with Sonar, that might not be a good thing (it can be turned off.)

i use sonar steam edition with no other issues than the ones that i see in these forums; you can control updates, you don't have to be running the steam client to use the software, etc... as dave says it's just(!) a software distribution system... and seth is very responsive to posts in the forums over there

awesome glad it worked.
When in doubt, run everything as administrator when registering a product.
