I have tried loading SI Drums wavs into Session Drummer 3, but all I get is a horrible screeching noise. Other wavs play OK. I can even load up a whole song to play at the beat of the drum. (NB, if anyone tries this, do NOT keep firing the tune... DAMHIKT)

Is this a proprietary thing?

Thanks for any advice here.

I tried a couple of the SI Drum sfz files in SD and they played OK. How are you loading the files? Which files give you trouble?

Thanks for the reply.

I click on SD3's Drum box (as in Prog>...MIDI>...Drum>, bottom LHC) and then navigate to Program Files(x86)/Cakewalk/Studio Instruments/SI-Drum Kit/Kits...and then choose 01_BD_MO. There are many .wav files there for different (I assume) bass drums.. I double click one and it loads...that produce a most horrid sound... that is NOT a bass drum. Sounds a bit like the old connect noise from an analogue data line or fax machine, when you ring it by accident.

All of the files in Program Files(x86)/Cakewalk/Studio Instruments/SI-Drum Kit/Kits sound the same. Other .wav files sound fine.

Try loading the the sfz files in the Drum entry or the "load instrument" option in the instrument context menu. This image shows the SI Drum "Kit 3 Kick.sfz" file loaded.

The context menus are also available from the instrument images in the mixer view.

Thanks man. But where are the sfz files for SI Drums? I only get wav files by doing as I described.

And why are the wav files suving up when I can loading other wavs?

Just like all the other sfz engine synths, the SI series rely on sfz files to play multiple samples per note. The sfz file are in the Kits folder. This is the same folder containing the 01_BD_MO folder.

The Cakewalk:Studio Instruments:SI Drum Kit:Kits folder has sub folders...if I open them they they have wav files. There are no sfz files.  AHHH! Down the bottom of the list are all the sfz files. I HATE that. OK. But why are the wav files snuffing up when other wavs play OK?

HATE seems a little strong. Read the sfz files. The samples are encrypted. You may create your own regular wavs by loading the sfz files and playing each samples.

This is a good thing to know because I often wish for certain kit pieces that are perfect in one VST drummer and end up loading 3 drum VST's just to built the kit I want.
I found an easy a work around.

I simply load up the drum kit, enter a midi note for each kit piece I want, one per 1/2 measure, then export the song.

I then chop these up in Wave lab and save and name them.
I then dropped them into Session Drummers kit piece folders as WAVE samples.
They are not SFZ files so you only get the one sound no matter what the velocity but it works.
I also record my own real drum kit and made samples that SD plays just fine.
It's the one thing I still use SD for is it ability to play any sample. Don't believe AD will play custom samples.

No need to mess with an editor. Bill Jackson wrote a utility to extract samples and create sfz files from any drum synth. CwDrSfzMaker is available from the SONAR Resources and Utilities page. I don't think he intended for it to be used to decrypt SI samples though.
